Eindhoven, 15 February - The 2019 iF DESIGN AWARDS have been a successful round for VanBerlo once again. Fantastic results have blown away the studio and their clients. Each year, the world's oldest independent design organisation, Hannover-based iF international Forum Design GmbH, organises the iF DESIGN AWARD. With three of their designs, VanBerlo won over the 67-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world. With the special focus on the delicate balance between customer wishes and the need for innovation, between what is technologically feasible and what will help business grow, VanBerlo has convinced the jury to award the designs for the Liquid Controls LCR.iQ, EVBox Level 2 Charging Station and the JUCE Arena. The competition was intense: 6,375 entries were submitted from 52 countries in hopes of receiving the seal of quality.

Liquid Controls LCR.iQ

When transferring highly valuable liquids from trucks, everything should go right. In collaboration with Liquid Controls, VanBerlo has given the LCR.iQ register such a makeover that monitoring and controlling the transfer is made easy even for unlearned personnel. The LCR.iQ is safe and intuitive, the buttons are easy to handle even with gloves on, the step-by-step process shows up on the screen and is simple to follow. The future proof electronic meter is the most powerful, scalable electronic register to date.

A traditional engineering and manufacturing company, Liquid Controls had a vision of a Next-Gen register but struggled to steer away from the legacy designs. Being a follower of iF for years, Daniel Clevenger, Product Manager and UX lead on the project, found VanBerlo amongst the top agencies on the iFworlddesignguide.com website to consider partnering with on this groundbreaking new product. Jointly looking at design from a holistic point of view, Liquid Controls and VanBerlo naturally matched their scope when it comes to the broadness of the design and the design impact. In the end, the process came full circle as the new LCR.iQ was chosen to receive an iF DESIGN AWARD in the discipline Product, Industry/Tools category.

EVBox Level 2 Charging Station

EVBox and VanBerlo have a history of a strong collaboration for the former project: ELVI. The new design elaborates on the corporate identity and incorporates technology for super-fast charging. The world of electric cars is moving fast. However, charging your futuristic electric car isn't as easy as it sounds. Many charging stations have poor user interfaces and impractical or no cable management solutions. EVBox's new level 2 charging station can now cater to the speed.

After extensive research, together with EVBox, VanBerlo designed the ideal station for commercial use and public areas in the USA. While keeping its modern yet simple signature design, it blends easily into the environment by allowing for customisation. A sophisticated lighting effect makes it easy to find the charger. Two vehicles can be charged simultaneously. The integrated cable management system hosts 5,5-meter-long cables without risking tangling or damaging them. The intuitive display lets you (most users are returning users) quickly charge and pay with every smart device. At the same time, it adapts to first time users with instructions and uses cues when needed. Technology changes fast to accommodate ever more advanced cars. So, the modular design of the station allows easy installation and quick exchange of (adjusted) parts. Durable, low maintenance and very efficient - rapidly moving towards a cleaner electric future.

JUCE Arena

The JUCE Arena stands out for their fresh perspective on the societal challenge of the Mobile Paradox, that particularly applies to the office environment. The smartphone has become an indispensable part of our daily life, and in this digital era no one can go without it. Especially so because the modern workplace is flexible, on the go and connected. The smartphone however, stands for a constant stream of distraction too, a silent performance killer.

Your 4th meeting today. Paul gets a call. Anne checks competitors' numbers on her phone. You are distracted by a message from the boss.

Sounds familiar? JUCE Arena, developed together with VanBerlo, brings back focused and engaged meetings. All phones go in the Arena - and automatically turns on the Do Not Disturb mode. Phones get charged while people focus on the topic and on each other. The Arena keeps track of time and communicates over an app. It registers entering the room and collects anonymous meeting data, syncs the calendar to remind you of your next meeting and activates the answering mode for incoming calls. Everyone leaves on time, phones ready to work. Effective meetings and clever data collection!
